Healthy eating – it’s easy when you know how

A healthy eating plan is one of those things that people talk about but don’t actually follow through with. I think it’s because food is always expensive, especially the healthy stuff – it’s harder to buy fruit and veg sometimes than it is to get ready prepared meals, and convenience can always trump health, especially with young families. So how do you do it?

  1. Actually plan – one of the mistakes I made early on was planning for a few weeks, and then falling back into my bad habits. I discovered that the hardest thing for me to do was to actually follow through, so our meal plans are now completed before we go shopping. Once we’ve done that, not only do we know what we need to buy, but we have a list of things we do – and don’t – need.
  2. Follow the plan – it is easy to come home and go…can’t be bothered but healthy eating plans only work if you follow them. So, once you’ve got a meal plan, try not to deviate.
  3. Healthy doesn’t mean bland. Healthy meal plans don’t mean they don’t taste great – so look out meals that you like and go for gold – your body, your family and eventually, your budget will thank you for it, as will your health.
